Severity of affection in terminal 2q deletions

Hi, every one! My daughter, Elizabeth Ann, has a terminal deletion at 2q37.3. She is dramatically affected, but very healthy when she is not ill.

Elizabeth has a tracheostomy, a feeding tube, seizures, global delays, excellent fine motor skills, and odd social behaviors. Additionally, she is having problems with autonomic regulation. Her temperature falls, her heart has weird arrhythmias, she needs oxygen, has diarrhea, dysphagia, her pupils are odd off and on, and she intermittent weakness. Anybody else?

We'd LOVE to be able to have another family to compare treatment plans with--and our doctors would fall over each other to speak with a medical professional already successfully dealing with these issues.

I am wondering if our children make up for their lack of gross motor skills by having excellent fine motor skills. Kane has always been very good with his hands and holding and grasping tiny things, but he is two and cannot crawl or walk. When I read your post I thought it was interesting that your daughter was the same way in fine motor skills and I think it would be interesting to know if more 2q kids are affected the same way.

Leon is now 3,5 years old and is 2q 37.1 he started to walk at about 22 month. But his fine motor skills are still very far behind. Maybe at a 1 year level. I think with his right hand he still cannot do the pincergrasp. So he is actually much more advanced in his gross motor skills. He is starting to run and loves to walk. I think it's a big release for him, from frustration but also being able to feel his body more. Ute

Sarah is 7 with 2q 37.1, the one thing that has remained constant with her since early development was her fine motor skills. She smiled early, and everything else seemed to come late. She has always had great social skills, which seem to compensate for the other things she lacks in.
However, she seems to have no fear of anything or anyone. She wants to talk to everyone and would go to anyone. The therapists were greatly concerned with this, and so was I. We have been practicing not talking to strangers, but I still have big concerns that she would get into a car or go into someone's house without question. And she has gone into people's houses, I have to tell her everytime she goes out to play, not to go into anyone's house and come ask me before she does. I have to give her some freedom, she gets mad if I follow her when she plays with her neighborhood friends. I check on her regularly of course. I read a case study where there was also noticeable lack of fear of strangers. I know and the therapists also expressed concern that Sarah could easily be taken advantage of, a parents worst nightmare. How do you teach this without making them afraid of everything and everyone?
With Sarah it is repetition that has helped her. She gets frustrated, but we keep working at things, and eventually she gets it (even if it takes years). It seems that once she gets something, it is retained, that is the good news!

Kimberly is 4 with q37.2. She was diagnosed chromosome 2 abnormal recently. She had feeding difficulty before she was two. She got herb and acupuncture treatments about half year to help her eating and walking. She has eaten well since the treatments. She was able to walk when she was two and half. She had beautiful hair when she was born, but she lost her hair when she was 9 month old, and her hair did not grow back so far. She is happy and has great smile. Her development is delay. She is not talking yet. I want to know if your 2q kid has hair and if he/she talks.

Our son has a q37.1 deletion. He is 5 1/2 and his speech is very delayed, but it improves each day. He goes to prep at a narmal school and so far seems to be coping well. He have him in speech therapy and over the past years have been doing all sorts of speech and occupational therapy. The Hanen approach was one speech initiative. They all seem to do some good, but it is slow going. We find that he talks best when he is excited - he puts a real effort in then.

Our son's hair is very fine, unlike his brothers.

I have some concern about Kimberly's behavior. Sometimes she seems happy, but suddenly she can cry and threw the tantrum to people. In her school, her behavior is just so different than others. I am wondering how are the other 2q deletion kids' behaviors.

hello je m'appelle marie suis atteinte de la micro délétion 2q37, j'ai 26ans . cette micro délétion est dû à une fissure du chromosome, celle ci jamais retrouvée. dans mon cas je suis déficiente visuelle et ce malgré un implant de corné malheureusement j'ai eu des complications l'implant était tombé je ne pouvais plus ouvrir l'oeil et grosse douleur il a fallu me le retirer plus quelques petites infections ce qui m'a obligée d'être sous antibiotique , ensuite j'ai eu une greffe de cornée à mon oeil droit et tout s'est très bien passé seulement voilà à cause de cette maladie 2q37 mes greffes de cornées n'ont pas servis pourtant les grefffes sont belles . cette opération je l'ai eu l'année dernière ou l'année d'avant sais plus trop . ma première greffe elle je l'ai eu à mes seize ans une réussite mais rechute
et pourtant la greffe est belle . en fait je vous explique la micro délétion 2q37 entraine chez moi une maladie ligamentaire sur toutes mes articulations et ligaments tendons. mes ligaments ne retiennent rien j'ai des attelles aux chevilles de carbone et plastique car mes pieds partent vers l'intérieur et ce pour limiter les déformations et entorses. j'ai fait plusieurs entorses , de l'algo neurodystrophie, une décalcification osseuse . mes entorses ne se traduisent pas comme une entorse normale ou votre pied gonfle chaud rouge non moi ça se traduit ou la cheville est normale mais à l'examen du médecin y'a entorse. j'ai connu de nombreuses entorses et a été plâtré avec après un soulagement avec ce plâtre. plusieurs semaines passés algo et dès fois sans. aujourd'hui je ne fais plus d'entorses grâce à mes attelles mais ma maladie a beaucoup évoluer et m'a fait perdre la marche je suis donc en fauteuil roulant . j'ai également des problèmes de poids à cause de cette délétion car je ne mange pas plus qu'une autre. l'arrêt de la marche est dûe à cause d"un problème musculaire ligamentaire. j'ai une scoliose lordose, cyphose n'a pas de corset mais va avoir sur mon prochain fauteuil un siège physipro c'est un siège un peu incurvé avec des cales troncs. je fais tous mes transferts à l'aide d'une planche en forme de banane jaune. les médecins m'avaient conseiller de perdre du poids j'en avais perdue 25 super et pourtant toujours pas de possibilitée motrice.j'en est repris 25 horreur alors je dois être plus vigilante car même si ça me redonne pas la marche le poids en moins c'est sûr serai super. je ne suis pas paralysée me sert très bien de mes deux bras mains . sauf une année j'ai eue une entorse donc immobilisation et après blocage de la main ce quyi avait entrainer une nouvelle algo j'ai très mal supporter le traitement même les blocs. tourt a été arrêter j'ai eu ma main bloquée avec doigts vers l'intérieur ceci c'est débloquer au bout d'un an après rééducation. j'ai fait beaucoup de rééducation intensive pour mes jambes dans un centre de rééducation fonctionnel et rien n'a donner ma maladie a évoluer vite après de
j'en est repris 25en deux ans quelle horreur je suis donc obligée
de faire attention . il m'a fallu quatre ans avant d'accepter cette fichue maladie qui m'empêche de marcher courir et dont aucune opération n'est possible c'est vrai j'ai aujourd'hui très peu d'entorses mais n'a le droit de poser pieds sinon luxation parfois je fais bloc et le fait surtout pour mes transferts en voiture , toilette... je me douche seule sur un siège douche sauf dos et pieds et pour mettre les attelles quand il fait chaud j'ai droit d'enlever mes attelles. je fais de la kiné deux fois par semaine vis dans un foyer médicalisé en france. parfois je fais des oedèmes aie aie. toutes mes articulations sont instables. parfois j'arrive à m'assoir par terre et me relever seule en mettant les mains sur le fauteuil et poussant un peu sur mes pieds gros risque tant pis.parfois ma maladie donne des grosses contractures musculaires et blocage ....donc je suis prise en lève personne le temps de me mieux me soulager et je fais des séances d'ostéopathie ce qui me soulage qques heures. malgré les douleurs j'aime la vie. je suis sous traitement et dès fois ça fait rien ou peu . je ne travaille pas car cette délétion m'empêche la logistique les compréhensions des consignes la fatigabilité mes problèmes de vue...j'en oublie peut être mais si vous voulez rentrer en contact avec moi voici mon email [e-mail]

hello excusez de mon texte je suis marie qui est atteinte de la délétion 2q37 mon texte je l'ai relu tout a été couper dommâge j"'ai mis tant de temps bon je m'appelle marie suis atteinte par la délétion 2q37 ne marche pas a de gros problèmes visuels et physiques dû à cette délétion 2q37 j'ai 26ans a une maladie touchant les articulations des ligaments tendons pas d'opération possible ni médicaments sauf douleurs. j'ai de nombreuses contractures, un peu de spasticité, de l'hypotonicité... a dû mal à tenir droite assise a une scoliose ... ne porte de corset mais des attelles de chevilles pour limiter les entorses et déformations

[bonsoir c'est marie qui écrit chez nous en france nous sommes 9cas recensés dont un en finlande la micro délétion 2q37 atteints tous les âges et surtout que des filles moi j"'ai 26ans suis touchée aussi par cette délétion et suis la seule adulte je fais partie d'un petit groupe ou les familles sont victimes de cette maladie car leurs enfants sont touchés par cette micro dé&létion 2q37 ces enfants et parents sont formidables et très courageux
cette délétion donne l'autisme verbal ou non, des traits autistiques avec langage +problèmes orthopédiques. nous sommes toutes des filles atteintes pour le moment car un cas y est au maroc et peut être d'autre cas ailleurs
